The Greater New Britain Arts Alliance exists to promote the creative, performing and visual arts, to provide a unified voice for the arts organizations, to serve as a catalyst for arts-related collaborations, to nurture individual creative abilities, and to advocate the arts as vital to the economic health and quality of life in the region.

 

The Greater New Britain Arts Alliance works on behalf of over 40 arts organizations and individual artists in the New Britain area. The GNBAA also has individual, household, and business members who support the work by their financial contributions and cooperative efforts. If you are not already a member please consider joining. Activities of the GNBAA include:

  • Centralized arts information resource

  • $60,000 State Funded Grant Program for member arts organizations

  • Joint advertising program in area publications and broadcast media

  • Arts Directory and Website

  • Biweekly ArtTown article in The Herald

  • Distribution of monthly "in the Arts" calendar
  • Weekly "Arts Alert" email notifying of upcoming arts events
  • GNBAA Art Partys celebrated at various arts venue
  • Maintenance of the DOWNTOWN GALLERY to provide exposure to the work of area visual artists

  • Arts Information literature displays at area events

  • Annual Awards to individuals and organizations that make significant contributions to the arts

  • Coordination of street signage for arts organizations

 

The GNBAA’s provides coordinated advocacy for the arts by its active involvement with many other organizations including the New Britain Chamber of Commerce, the New Britain Downtown District Commission, New Britain Marketing Collaborative, the New Britain Commission on the Arts, Central Connecticut State University, Vision New Britain, the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism, and the Mayor’s Office and the Common Council of the City of New Britain. The GNBAA maintains close ties with the New Britain Connecticut Legislative delegation and represents the interests of the Arts in the New Britain area to state and national leaders and organizations.

 

Highlights for 2009 – 2010 include:  

  • · Received $73,000 in funding from the State of Connecticut enabling the Alliance to partially fund the Executive Director’s position and provide $62,000 in grants to member arts organizations

    · With the support of the Connecticut Commission on Culture and Tourism hired a part time Arts Administrative Assistant especially to assist with marketing the arts

    · Welcomed the Music Program at Saint Mark’s Church New Britain and New Britain Youth Theater as arts organization members of the GNBAA

    · With the assistance of the GNBAA the Artists Cooperative Housing units in downtown New Britain were filled

    · Worked with the New Britain Downtown District to move the Visitors Center and Downtown Gallery to the ground floor of the Artists Cooperative Building, strengthening this important artists housing project and providing a more visible location for the Visitors Center
